my blocks of march

Here are my blocks of march.
I had many difficulties with the appliques of stars.
And finally, i changed them with flowers because it wasn't perfect.

But i found yesterday a video of Jan Patek who explain how to applique stars

For me, it's too late, i don't want to try again.

Best kisses
Laurence♥

Yeah, yeah.........

Yesterday, my pattern Natures Journey arrived.
Tomorrow I will try to find some background fabrics and start.
I'm a bit behind now, but maybe I can come ajour in a couple of weeks.
I love all the nice blocks in here and look forward to the rest.

Hi girls
I have emailed you both with no response.
You have not shown any quilt progress.
If you don't contact me in the next week I will assume you no longer want to be part of the SAL.

February finished at last

Update on my February blocks... finished them today.  Have had visitors for 2 weeks and away for two weeks in February... hopefully I can get on track now.  Block 2 arrived in mail today so will start on that one asap...

I havent put the dots on some blocks as I think I will use buttons and havent decided if I shall put the date or my initials on the blank block either.... still need to trim down to size but will do that once all the blocks are finished and I start to put things together.

February Finished

A big sewing day today!  February blocks are now complete. Please note it down on the side bar for me please Chooky.

Looking forward to starting March.

I haven't done needle turn appliqué for quite some time. So it's a little bit wonky. Some practice coming up over the next few months.

Regards

Marg

Still Here

I am still here, but the last month I have been so busy, it was unbelievable, but things are slowing down now so I hope to get my blocks done.

I do have all the supplies just to start now, so keep an eye out for me

I'm Still Here!

Despite my good start and my excellent intentions, I'm now way behind. Between parents with medical issues, teenagers with medical issues and some with just bad attitude, the height of the swimming season and co-ordination costumes for a cast of 12 for a comedy based in England during World War 1. (The costumes are just amazing - beautiful ladies' gowns.). Anyway, the month of Fevruary disappeared and we are well into March.

Thank goodness I opted for the BOM option from Anni - hate to think where I'd be without all that help.

Here is my progress so far:

My outlines are done. My appliqué pieces cut. I now have an hour to get some more sewn into, place. Hoping for some more progress as the day goes on. And I'm not looking at all the other bits and pieces that need my attention. Today is Nature's Journey Day.

March BOM has arrived in the mail. Gorgeous blocks once more. Looking forward to catching up,by the end of March. Loving seeing everyone else's posts.

Marg

Almost an M, NOPE it's an M

I'm on my last block, and I'm loving it.

Have you all noticed how pointy this months blocks are. Well I've been struggling. With fray, and awkward points.
I decided to move on to the curvier pieces. And the points were getting better.

But after last nights sewing group tip, of using a toothpick. WOW, those little points are losing and I'm winning. After posting on Instagram and Facebook, a few people asked for a video tutorial, my friend Wendy, found a blog step-by-step, hope it helps.

Happy Stitching,
Sonia

PS.
So I decided, well my body decided that it was over the no pain no gain, and it needs a rest and recovery day. I do have Forever Always stitching to do, but that one last point was calling me to finish it. So I did! So please can I have an M?

February Update....

My February blocks are now finished and I have started on March blocks. I decided to use a different thread as well because I did not want to worry that maybe it would leach out again over time. So you can mark off February for me now Chooky!:) And below is my start on the March blocks.
Off to stitch a bit more before bedtime...

Please Give me a J F

Ok I may be slow on blog posting, but I've been using this photo as my prompting with my stitching and it's keeping me motivated.

A we bit behind .................

.................But on my to do list

I have my pencil out and ready to start tracing.

I haven't quite got my fabric together but it will be a work in progress.

Looking forward to having a stitching project on the go again

ps:  thanks Chooky for the whip cracking............

Cheers Kez

Late but busy working and learning

This is a learning curve for me and I am enjoying the process, but between work and another project that has to be done I am a bit slow.  I hope that March will be on time, now that I know what I'm doing.   I have broken out my silk threads to applique and playing in my scraps is making this a quilt fit for me.  Any tips on getting nice points on my hearts? ;).

February Blocks....

Sorry Chooky for being tardy with this post. I have all the blocks appliqued and one block stitched. The stitched block has a bleed of color in the purple section of the thread. I am going to wait until I do the March blocks to embroider these as I am trying to get my thread to set. A couple of dips in boiling water should do the trick. So I hope you can mark me off for this month. What a learning curve for me. I moved away from my regular method of applique, which is blanket stitch to doing needle turn on this little quilt. Whew! All those little pieces were a bugger to get down until I found a rhythm as I went along. I do hope I improve much more over the course of this quilt. I also changed a few things as I went. I made a five petal daisy instead of the funny little flower. Then I decided I had had enough of those tiny circles and used an extra hexagon and heart for the circles. There will be changes in this months blocks as well. I think it is ok to make the changes as it reflects what I like best. All in all this has been a great learning curve this past month. I promise to be on time this month and have them all ready for inspection soon. I have made a start with cutting out all the shapes and preparing the blocks for stitching them down. Any advice on needle turn with these tiny pieces would be much appreciated.

March complete ....

Loving this stitchalong sooo very much!!! March is complete....will be good and not start April......ohh who likes being good lol

February is complete.

I finished my February blocks on Friday... I even posted images on Instagram under the #NaturesJourney hashtag. But life gets busy and I diddn't manage to get onto the computer and post some pictures until now. Whoops!!!

I bought a few of the background fabrics, but the applique is all scrap fabrics.

In all honesty, I'm not a fan of blanket stitching, so I decided to stem stitch the circle blocks and back stitch the square blocks (the hexagon appliques).

I'll do better next month and have my post up on time. Really! ;-)

Being cheeky .......... March finished

I'm getting in early..........

Just in case I am a little naughty and struggle to post again this month I am getting in early, here is my March blocks completed.

I have never been this early in any SAL (hope it makes up for me being late Chooky).

I was so enjoying putting the blocks together I just had to keep on going.  How much fun I am having seeing the quilt come together.  I hope you like my colours, my kids arn't convinced, saying it is very different to what I normally do.

We have had bushfires burning in my suburb of Baldivis for the last month, unfortunately they have been deliberately lit.  It is so scary and they are burning too close to homes, schools and putting lifes at risk and putting  a stop to our main freeway system.  Monday's fire was too close to our home, lucky the forest has gone and we have vacant land.

Back to my studio to have fun.

Oooooops I didn't post ...... and now I'm late

Hi girls, I have had so much fun in February working on my SAL, I sooooo love it.  No excuse for being late, stitching was on time, bad blogger ooops!

I couldn't work out which fabric I preferred.   I started with a red colourway (as is my favourite colour to work with) using French General, I wasn't completely happy ......

and started again using a blue background, similar to the original and love it.

I am so enjoying needle turn and am really happy with my results.  I experimented using a long very thin needle and the results have been very rewarding.  This quilt is so addictive.

I hope you forgive me Chooky, promise to be up to date with blogging this month :))))))

Well, I Have My Pattern...

I usually do not order things from overseas if I don't have to.  First of all, I'm so impatient and I hate waiting.  In this case I decided I had to because the pattern was so new I couldn't find it in the states anywhere.  I waited and waited and checked the mailbox everyday and when that beloved envelope finally showed up from Australia I was so excited...that is until I opened it up and found this...

And although I love this book and think it is gorgeous, it was not what I was expecting.  I couldn't even post about it because I was just that disappointed.  I got right on the computer and reordered my Natures Journey.  I'm sure I put the wrong pattern in my cart the first time and they were so gracious to send my second pattern out right way.  You can imagine my elation when this arrived this week...

This is my progress for February...just getting the pattern here.  I'm heading to the sewing room to start cutting some fabric.  Happy Stitching!!  --Kristen

February blocks done.....

My apologies Chooky and Susan for my late post. Finished the last 2 blocks today. Have used a mixture of French General fabrics with a few odd pieces from my stash. I've really enjoyed fussy cutting the fabrics and stitching these although  in the future I will allow more time for that process. I have also chosen to use blanket stitch applique instead of needle turn.

I've left the little circles out of the heart blocks for now as I may add  buttons to the centre but if not will add the circles later.
Congratulations on so many finishes and a big Thank you to Chooky and Susan for pushing us to finish.
See you next month

February stitching

The stitching was done but I hadn't taken the photo. I feel like I've been running the kids around all weekend and I have only just now had a chance to do my show and tell. The blocks are not trimmed yet so there are a few threads here and there. Now to keep up to date each month.

Lynda (bettsylyn)

Almost there

I'm not finished yet and won't be before midnight because I'm going out tonight. My plan was to sew all night and be finished before midnight. Well, that's life! I can almost hear the whip coming my way. You can see what year I sewed, so I will keep up better in the future.
Here's how far I've come, you'll get a completed photo tomorrow.
