Australia Day sewing

I decided very early in the year that 2013 I would allow myself the time to stitch and sew. You see, last March I started working full time and I don't think I picked up needle and thread or turned on my sewing maching in all that time. I'm more than well and truly settled into my job and so I decided enough of this "all work and no play" business. Time to play.

So I tidied up my sewing corner which had become a catch-all area for all sorts of junk during the past year. Then I started sewing.

Before too long, I had my first thread catcher sewn up. Oh it was so nice to be sewing again. I'd forgotten how much I love my machine.

Dolly thought it might look good as a hat. What do you think?

I had intended to sew two of these cute little thread catchers but I accidentally cut enough fabric for four. Whoops. Looks like I have a few gifts made. ;o)

January check ... and check

Hi, I'm Pia from Denmark.

Years back I joined this SAL for "A Gardeners Journal" and "Tis The Season".
I passed "Some Kind of Wonderful", but now I'm back to make a lot of wonderful smaller projects
So happy to be sewing with you again.

Some jelly roll strips leftover from another project came to good use.

Making a Start

The thread catcher was a great little introductions to the year’s stitching – nice and quick and easy. It took under an hour, which including unpacking the sewing machine and all my bits and bobs that had been packed away for Christmas and deciding what fabric to use.

The Parisian fabric fitted the bill nicely, and it is already in use by my machine.

I’ve made a couple of the shoe bags as gifts and I’m looking forward to making one for myself.

Cheers

Janice

One More...

Such a great way to start the year off with these cute thread catchers!!

One thread catcher

Today I made up my first, certainly not my last, thread catcher.

I used mum's  Pfaff sewing machine to sew this and  just like others who have posted on this blog I too chose a decorative stitch for the edging.

Thank you Susan for your helpful advice in making this thread catcher.

Cheers, Simone

Catcher - Thread or Sun?

Hi SAL 2013 fellows!
I´m very happy joining this SAL. It´s my first attempt with you.  It was love at first sight!
I dont have the books, I will, I will... already ordered at Annie´s New Zealand, they will have to fly to Portugal, half World, nothing much! I tried to have a Catcher done and used a piece of fabric I already had sewn. You can see,  the size is not the same but if it does not catch the threads, sure it catchs the SUNSHINE!
Happy New Year to all of you!
PS: Here it´s yet 3rd January! 6;30 PM

2013 SAL .......here goes......

Hello fellow SAL'ers, I am happy to be joining in with you again, after sitting out the Some Kind of Wonderful quilt.  I have just finished my first Thread Catcher, and I think there will be a few more of these in my future, they really are so quick and easy......

After seeing Chookyblue's decorative stitches, I tried out this heart stitch, something I very rarely use, but I like the way it's turned out.

Happy sewing to you all........... Nicky

I have a problem.............

Look what I did in 5 mins this morning..............seriously......why had I not done it earlier..........clearing off the table I found the pages I had copied months ago out of Some Kind of Wonderful so then I thought I would put them into bag and I knew where I had some bits and opened another draw and found more so I feel Susan has been a good influence on me so far..........
See the reason why I did this SAL.........these NEED to be done...........not sitting in a basket getting old.......
I have been working on another project this morning in the chook shed but was itching to make another thread catcher..........this is another 7x11in one and Fairy Girl I think will get this one...............
and a different fancy stitch around the top................
I am addicted to these cute thread catchers from the Red Home book............
Catch you later..............

Thread Catcher

Thanks, Chooky, for organising another Stitch-a-long. I really like this year with smaller projects! I have too many large projects that need finishing this year. The thread catcher was so quick and easy to make. I used some scraps of French general fabric and did mine with patchwork. It is a tiny bit bigger than the original.
I think it will be very useful.

You were right Chooky, it takes longer to decide of fabrics than it takes to whip one up! lol! They are just so cute and I think they would also make a perfect little gift bag to hold fabrics etc.

It did hurt to cut into my new Rosies Love Letters fabric...but it was definately worth it in the end!
Now I am off to choose some more fabric to make another one!!
Bye For Now
