A little more Wonderful :)

Another quick update on my Some Kind of Wonderful quilt...

 I caught up on the May blocks (finally) and am all set to start on the final strip...WOOOHOOOO!

Loved finishing this block...it's my favourite.

  Best Friends didn't take nearly so long...

Better late than never!

As 'they' say..(who are 'they' anyway - my daughter asked me that question yesterday and I truthfully couldn't answer it), better late than never. I finally got around to getting these fabrics out of my cupboard and sorted...

These are my favourite two fabrics. I would have liked a duck egg blue, perhaps I can pick some up for the applique later on.

Of course today I cut out all of the applique background blocks and then re-read the instructions where Anni suggests to add an extra inch to all the blocks to prevent distortion!!!! arrrhhh!!! Did anyone else do this - forget to add the extra inch?

I am now worried as it is my first attempt at needle turn applique and assume I won't be that good at it, distortion is bound to take place.

Perhaps I will just try it and hope for the best.

Out of Order....

my blocks, not me. Although.....  :-)
For my recent driving holiday, I prepped the easier blocks from the last row. I got only one done during the holiday, but before reality set back in, I was able to finish the rest. I have just finished the chair.  Yes that is 3 weeks and all the applique blocks from the last row finished. Believe me, I have impressed myself.

I'm particularly happy with the chair. I think this is my best effort yet with needle turn applique.

Finished SKOW Quilt

I got a gentle reminder I hadn't shown my finished quilt.... So here it is!  It's hanging at the shop (www.lappemor.no) , and it makes me smile every time I look at it :-)

This was such a fun quilt to make- And all from stash as well.  I still have the box with leftover fabrics from this project- I am thinking about making a lap quilt with them, just cut them up in 5" squares or something like that and make a fun scrap quilt :-)

I have had a trying couple of weeks and am glad to say 

that I have had some of these to help get me through....

I am so happy to have the fourth row all finished.....

Making Slow Progress

My last post was at the end of February, where I shared  my finished section for January.  Since then, there have been no more finished sections according to the plan.  However, I have been plodding along, just not in order.

In March I did lots of machine appliqué.  I still feel a bit of a fraud using this method, but I do want to finish the quilt in this lifetime and I know it would never happen if I used needle turn.  I also read “Pride and Prejudice” while we were on holidays, as I haven’t read it since we studied it for the HSC in the early 80s. That was research….

April – no inclination, stitching group on a break - no progress.

May – ditto.  I was starting to wonder if this was going to end up just another UFO.

June – inclination returned.  Finished hand stitching some blocks, more machine appliqué  completed, stitching group resumed.

July – more of the same.

So, this is where I am up to now…….

This block needs to have the cat machine appliquéd, along with the flowers with all those pesky little petals (I need to be in the right mood for that), then all the appliqué on the quilt is finished. It then needs to be hand stitched.

I still need to do the hand stitching on this block and then make the little patchwork blocks to be appliquéd on.  Yes, I will needle turn those. Did you notice that I have left the fiddliest blocks till last.

That is all that is left to do on the blocks - the rest are finished.

The sashings are all made, except for the section which needs some hand stitching.

I still have to make the little patchwork panels, before stitching it all together.

Still quite a bit to go, but I think it is doable.

I really, really loved making this block !

You will recognize me... Fair hair, blue eyes...

AND... pretty pink shoes !!

I was thinking of all my friends while I was making this block and I want to dedicate it to all of them !!
For all the good times chatting, laughing, stitching, walking, eating, drinking.... well you all know what I mean !

Miss May!

Miss May is the name of our cat - and of this cat too of course! I must write it somewhere on this block!

Slowly but persistent - I'm getting there! Most blocks are ready to be pressed and squared up.  Just need to (start and) finish chair, butterfly, shoes and Miss May, and I'm ready to roll!

I just love this Quilt!

SKOW Row 3

Well after a bit more of this I can now reveal "Row 3"

Hanging on my vintage kitchen dresser.....

That's 3 down and 2 to go and then all those columns....Argh!

I am a bit worried that the first column on row one is

 a tad short and is pulling the side up, I hope when

 the top and bottom are on it will sit better....

If not I will have to do the unthinkable....UNPICK!!!!!

SKOW move on

I have been distracted by all sorts of activities-- but am now concentrating on the SKOW SAL group project. I have been wanting to photograph them hanging from the clothesline-- but it has been raining. It is overcast now and windy-- no way am I able to keep them still enough to take the photos! So the floor is the next best thing.

I had got to this stage a while ago.

I had done the blocks and have now joined them in a row.

I was struggling measuring each thin 2"x 61.5"strips and I had a brainwave-- join the 3 together and then measure the correct length and cut it! Why did I not think of that before?

So this is the total so far

So I will get back to more sewing  and hopefully a further move on.

June's blocks done

I had the applique sections done for June but hadn't put the blocks together or added the borders. Finally here they are!

 The, a bit wrinkled, quilt so far. Not much to go now.

Woo Hoo Give me a 'D' for December

My December block is finally complete.....

Only 6 months late Chooky ......

It looks very long from this angle.....

Just a bit excited that I will have a 'D' on the sidebar finally.....

This is where I am up to so far with the piecing....

SKOW Row 1 & 2

Lots of cutting and trimming for me last weekend....

The weather was freezing so it was a good time to lock

 myself inside and concentrate on this project.....

This is Row 1  and I agree with the other stitch-a-long ladies

 when I say that it was difficult to photograph......

And before long row 2 took shape as well.....

It is fun sewing all the squares together once they are cut out....

Dzintra glad you have another block done and thanks to Kayly for showing us Lynda's GJ block....come on Lynda do you have another one done...........

Dawnie posted a pic of her TTS top.....is it quilted now Dawnie?.......Pepe had another project she made from a block......

The current SAL WILL be FINISHING in October as per the deadline on the sidebar........after that time everyone gets busy with Christmas stitching

Also for the stragglers on the TTS and GJ quilts that will be ending then too.

I am unsure if we will go onto a new project at this stage really that depends on how all your girls go at getting the current SAL finished.

But it is not too late...........get going with the SAL....I am way behind too so lets all make a big push to get the quilts moving.............

June 30 Update

I was all set to say: Here is my June blocks, I'm up to date with 12 hours to spare......then.....I checked the monthly chart and see that I was supposed to do the sashing between this strip and the next one...oh well......I have a few corrections to make on the sashing from last month so I'll just do it then....presently, I'm on my "Bird" embroidery for July...I've done the "pressie" and the butterfly and they are ready to applique......

This bear replaces the shoe block

I'm not sure I want to do the chair block so I'm thinking of other alternatives.
