Re embroidering the words

I have been sewing the blocks and not sewn the wording and embroidery . We are going away for a few days and I am getting the wording ready to take along with me.
Does anyone use interfacing at the back of the letters, over the whole block or not at all?-- as I am not sure which would give the best results.
Would appreciate your advice.
Thanks, Yvonne

Hey Yvonne! I use an iron-on stabiliser called Violene (I think that's how you spell it!!) and it makes stitching MUCH easier, with less puckering in the background fabric. I've done both ... put it on the whole block and also just under the stitching section of an applique block ... both work fine and once it's quilted you can't tell it's there. I quite like putting it on the whole block as it stops edges fraying too. Happy stitching! :0) Bear Hugs! KRIS

I usually put a cotton iron on interfacing under stitcheries but as there isn't that much stitching on this quilt, I haven't done it this time. I use a hoop and don't pull the stitches too tightly.

I have put parlan behind the whole block for each of mine - and since I have done machine applique - it went on before I did the appliqueing. I like the slightly puffy look of parlan - or I could have used an equivalent of pellon - but you can just use a thin backing like whisperweft if you just want to hide the ends of the threads etc. I would do the whole block whatever I chose.
Enjoy your trip away!

I use Pellon behind the words & hand stitchery after I have done the needleturn applique. It stops the darker threads showing through the cream background fabrics. Tracee xx

I do like Slyvia. I hide my ending thread by weaving it into the back of the letters.

Parlon is a bit like a thin cotton batting – I love it now! And don’t let them confuse you with pellon – it is not the same

I am sure you will catch up – and really it’s the process of doing it that counts – and it should be fun – not pressure

Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do

Yes, I use any of the above, depending on what I have at the time!

I always put iron-on pellon behind my stitcheries, I use the thinner one. It gives a nice puffy look to the blanket stitch & embroidery, & also hides any threads going between sections on the back. I always use a hoop too.

Hi Yvonne - I like to use a light weight cotton backing which is iron on. I like to iron it onto the back of the panel before I stitch as it gives it a bit of substance and prevents pulling the fabric. I also use a small embroidery hoop for my embroidery and having the iron on fabric on the back ensures the rest of the design isn't pulled. Good luck!!
