Nearly There!

Just a quick update... my quilt is now back from the quilters..... (sorry about the sun in the top corner)......
A couple of close ups of the quilting.... done by a lady called Jenny in our embroidery group......

And... after a trip to my local patchwork shop some binding was purchased.... I would have gone for a brown of some kind if it wasn't for the helpful assistant who suggested we look around for some other options.... love the one she came up with (an Anni Downs fabric - from her "Under the Mistletoe" range) .....
seen here along the bottom of the photo.

So.... just have to cut up the binding, sew it on and do my label!....I'm getting there not long to go now!

Happy Stitching

SAL - Natures Journey a progress report

Can I please have a double JJ added to my J,F,M,A & M

my progress may have been slow, but I really pulled out the stops this last month and have managed to get June and July complete and even had August ready to go before September came.

June Part 5 big-leaves, acorn, flower, 2xpieced blocks +4small 2xhearts, 2xladybugs

July Part 6 centre appliqué

August Part 7 2 borders with the little squares appliquéd on - well, they are all cut out, preparation is the key they say. That and my love for ziplock bags. I am progressing slowly, so I am now only 1 month behind.... fingers crossed I can catch up before September is done.

September Part 8 last section and into a top and quilted - there is still hope, with a weekend away coming up in Bathurst it may just happen.

April finished!

I bet you didn't see this one coming any time soon. I, for one, have not been holding my breath waiting for this last block to get finished. But, today, during one of little A's naps, I decided to see if I could get the block prepped - and, after that was completed, see how much of it I'd be able to do before she woke up.

Well, I didn't get much done before she was up and ready for action again - but she did play on her mat for a little while so that I could finish the appliqué. The star is completed - and thus all the blocks from April can now be crossed off the list!

Not too bad, it only took about four months to get it done.. :-p

I'll see if I can get some new background fabrics selected and cut for May and June tomorrow (or this weekend, what ever comes first with some me-time). I'm not sure when I'll be able to start July (or August, for that matter) seeing as we haven't found a desk yet. Actually, we're missing quite a bit of stuff, and since moving, still have a bunch of boxes here and there. But, we're getting there. The house is liveable and we're getting to know the neighbourhood and the city. So far, not really missing Oslo - but I guess we'll get to that point too, sooner or later.

But tonight I'll be celebrating this one little victory!

May I have an "A, please?

I know its August but I'm slowly plodding along.....

Have finally finished April
Starting on May, June, July
Hoping to finish with the rest have a week of leave coming up
Football and Netball finishes mid September
I'm aiming for Oct long weekend to finish

Biggest stumbling block was I just wasn't getting any better at needleturn
In fact it was looking worse and worse
Did some blocks twice - don't ask me where the cherries are
They are misplaced but completed

Have received a few instructions and hints and tips from my local group
And this has helped slowly
Mays blocks are prepped ready to go
Stay tuned - committing to one block a night to finish

(Even tried fussy cutting the diamonds - centre piece cause the points didnt meet
But sshhh dont tell anyone  - our secret)

May is finished.... catching up:-)

Dear Girls,

I have finished May and I am half-way with June blocks.   I put away my Natures Journey quilt for a couple weeks, because I had been working on illustrating a children book (my first such challenge).   I really hope to show you soon, it is now nominated on a national competition for illustrators, fingers crossed:D
I really hope and plan to finish June and July this month and catch you up!:-)
Lots of love, wish you all happy and relaxing summer holidays!

June Done and Dusted

As usual I have my blocks finished just in the nick of time.

The plan was to do the machine applique and little patchwork panels on Sunday.  However, it was such a nice sunny and WARM day that I couldn't stay inside, so a mad rush last night and tonight.

I decided to make my leaves and acorn in autumn colours, as that is more appropriate for the season at the moment.

I've still been using tiny scraps for the applique.  The lady birds and floral heart were removed from Chooky's fabric scrap bin when we visited a few weeks ago - too small for her tub under the table.  They weren't even big enough for the tiny squares in the patchwork panel.

You can't have ladybirds without spots.  One fabric was ideal with a small print and I added some colonial knots on the other while I was stitching the head and legs.

The blue heart is another tiny triangular scrap from Nundle.

I love the way the patchwork circles have turned out.  Unfortunately, I have finally had to look further afield for fabrics, going to my stash.  I'm running out of suitable sized scraps to get enough variety of colour.

I had a couple of "Doh!" moments.  Early in the piece I was very organised and traced all the circles and squares onto the background fabrics ready to blanket stitch.  The only problem was that these two blocks don't get embroidered and the circles are smaller.  Fortunately, there is JUST enough fabric in the patchwork panel to make a 5 inch circle and hide my tracings.

Also, don't you hate it when you do this with Vlisofix!  Yep, fused to the front of the fabric.  More haste, less speed.

So, another month finished with two hours to spare.  Not only that, the whole border is now finished. I didn't think I would make it this time.

I'm really looking forward to playing with the centre block next month.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes Chooky.  You know how much I appreciate the incentive to keep going.

Cheers

Janice

Almost Done....

With the blocks for May...I hope to finish them up during the party over on Chooky's blog this weekend...will post pics when I find my camera charger and get the battery charged...I have not been able to find it since my trip, hoping I did not leave it in the hotel. That said, I will now have a cuppa and sit to stitch a while.

....And May is finished!

Earlier this month, in the very beginning, I considered dropping out of the group.  I'm sure if I had done that, Nature's Journey would simply become a UFO...My Birthday was the fourth, my sister had been very ill for a week and they had taken her off the respirator....I prayed she wouldn't die on my Birthday...it was just after midnight on the 5th. We buried her on the 9th.

At that point, I had prepped 2 of the large squares and all of the small.....I'm glad that I didn't quit because, look, today is the 18th and I am finished.

I do not like doing the leaves at all...so you can see my blossoms only have one each....I see that one of the squares for the next section has multiple leaves....I am going to begin with that one, do a couple of the leaves, move on to another square, then come back and do a couple more leaves. That way I can break up the task.
I find myself with a couple of extras: a heart and a hexagon so I may use those for part of the next section.
I went in the craft room this morning to cut some large squares and discovered I'd used all of the fabric, except for a couple of strips for the small squares...so its off to Hobby Lobby for me today.
I have been visiting you all but haven't really commented....you are doing great and I enjoy seeing every one's work.
Happy Stitching,

Another Slow Starter

This is just a quick post.  Thanks to Chooky and Susan encouraging me to post my progress.  Due to surgery recently, I have to take the summer off work which gives me the chance to sit in my garden stitching most days for the next four months.
I cut all my blocks out at the beginning of this project.  Now I am feeling a little better I am stitching away. I love reading all your inspiring posts.  I will post pictures on my next post.

A slow starter.......

Finally, I have done my first part of Natures Journey.  I started rather late, so I am a bit behind, but I hope to catch up sometime....... Now I am going to start out with the March part.
It is my first time with Needle turn, and I think that is a bit hard. Hopefully it will be better when I have done it some more time......
I love to see all the gourgeous parts that you all have made, it's nice to see all the difference in fabrics

A bit behind.

Hello.
I'm impressed about all the nice blocks, and I see how much I'm behind. I get my pattern a few weeks ago, but I get my DMC thread just a couple of days ago. I'm almost finished with the stitching of the first blocks. After Easter holiday I will start applique. And then hopefully catch up slowly.......

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE.
