I finished top:)

I am done the top. yay!!!!!

Thank you so much!! Chooky and Susan.
I have been so happy for being part of this project and learning a lot from other great quilters. As a self study quilter quilting is one of the hardest things to do.
However with all friends here I can get some ideas. ❤️

Update

Well, after a couple of weeks the momentum has returned!
I cut all those little squares but then fell into a hole and Nature's Journey was no longer happening :( ..... but yesterday the sewing machine was out and humming away as I was on the "Journey" again.... a little way to go but there will be further updates later in the week!
And, how inspiring are those lovely finished tops (or quilts)!

Happy Stitiching

At Journey's End

Well nearly ... except for the quilting and binding but for now I am super happy with a finished top.

Sorry but I couldn't decide which photo layout I liked the best so went with all 3 ... I'm just that happy to have a top.

I can't thank Chooky enough for the opportunity to be part of this years' SAL and to Susan for being co whip cracker. In all the ups and downs of the drought, working off farm and general life, this has been the one thing that I could control. All mapped out with steps for each month ... great support and friendship with fellow SAL Gals and lovely comments cheering each other on.

Congratulations to our Champions and to those who have finished tops ... they are all amazing to look at and I love all the different colour combinations.

Fingers crossed that another SAL may commence with the new year. Knowing all to well how Mother Nature and other "stuff" can push you to your limits sometimes ... this journey has been a lovely oasis.

Thank you xx  ~  Narelle @ Pins and Whiskers

Getting her dun

Well, a bit of good news first.
I finished the top except for the two the borders.
Yay for me!

Bad news is, I sprained my foot while motorbike riding yesterday, and it's my sewing foot too, so I won't be able to use the machine for at least a few weeks.
But that's ok. I'll just have to put my feet up and hand sew my butt off!
So, I need a tick for last month still, and we will postpone the next tick for a few weeks ;))

Hoping everyone is stitching up a storm and "gettin her dun"

SAL - Natures Journey a progress report

Can I please have a double JJ added to my J,F,M,A & M

my progress may have been slow, but I really pulled out the stops this last month and have managed to get June and July complete and even had August ready to go before September came.

June Part 5 big-leaves, acorn, flower, 2xpieced blocks +4small 2xhearts, 2xladybugs

July Part 6 centre appliqué

August Part 7 2 borders with the little squares appliquéd on - well, they are all cut out, preparation is the key they say. That and my love for ziplock bags. I am progressing slowly, so I am now only 1 month behind.... fingers crossed I can catch up before September is done.

September Part 8 last section and into a top and quilted - there is still hope, with a weekend away coming up in Bathurst it may just happen.

August Done and Dusted

Once again I finished by the skin of my teeth, putting the last stitches in last night.  Phew, with a day to spare.

Firstly the borders went on, continuing to use only fabrics from my stash.

Then I had to make the decision as to how I would attach the diamonds.  I could do like the pattern suggested, ie basting over papers and hand appliqué, or I could baste  over papers and then machine appliqué with a blind hem, or I could do like the rest of the quilt and use Vlisofix and a machine blanket stitch.  After much procrastinating and the month very quickly passing by I took the easy option and used machine blanket stitch.  It came together quickly and I don’t think the appearance of the quilt is compromised.

I'm loving how it is turning out.  It could quite easily be a wall hanging just like this.  I've cut all my coloured squares for next month.  There are now no pieces larger than a two inch square in my bag of scraps.  I then had fun pulling other fabrics from my stash.  Now I just have to cut the small blue squares and the pink pieces and get on with lots of piecing.

Next month looks like it will certainly keep us busy if we are to finish the top, particularly as there is lots of other things going on now that the weather is warming up.

I'm loving seeing everyone else's versions.  Thanks as always to the whip crackers.

Cheers

Progress pic

Just a quick pic to show my progress!

All laid out now, just going to sew dark border on and begin appliqueing. I glue prepped the squares all in one hit, instead of EPPing them.

August Progress

Just a quick pic and spiel. I'm done cutting the squares and will begin appliqueing them as soon as my typing fingers are free!

Also just want to point out, that the measurements for the finished size of this months block can't be right. It doesn't finish at 27.5 x 33.5. It can't. That would make it too big on both long sides when the next border is attached. Either that or I'm going nuts lol, which is quite possible...

I decided to go with a plain border instead of a scrappy one. The centre piece is pieced and to me that adds enough interest. So I went with the plain arrangement.

Hope everyone is madly stitching.
Lots of hugs,
Kel x

April finished!

I bet you didn't see this one coming any time soon. I, for one, have not been holding my breath waiting for this last block to get finished. But, today, during one of little A's naps, I decided to see if I could get the block prepped - and, after that was completed, see how much of it I'd be able to do before she woke up.

Well, I didn't get much done before she was up and ready for action again - but she did play on her mat for a little while so that I could finish the appliqué. The star is completed - and thus all the blocks from April can now be crossed off the list!

Not too bad, it only took about four months to get it done.. :-p

I'll see if I can get some new background fabrics selected and cut for May and June tomorrow (or this weekend, what ever comes first with some me-time). I'm not sure when I'll be able to start July (or August, for that matter) seeing as we haven't found a desk yet. Actually, we're missing quite a bit of stuff, and since moving, still have a bunch of boxes here and there. But, we're getting there. The house is liveable and we're getting to know the neighbourhood and the city. So far, not really missing Oslo - but I guess we'll get to that point too, sooner or later.

But tonight I'll be celebrating this one little victory!

May I have an "A, please?

This is the little squares block - just have to appliqué circles on to backgrounds.

Love my hexagons.  This was an easy one to get done.

Still working away

Hi Everyone

Just letting you know that I'm still working away On my block back log.  I've pieced my background for the centre block and I've started stitching on the stems.  I've completed all the outlines for the smaller blocks.   And I've been working away on the appliqué centres.

I will try and post some photos but I've had about 4 goes at that and it hasn't worked.  Thoughts I'd better get some info on here to show that I'm still on the planet.

Loving all the beautiful colours I'm seeing on blog posts.  Can't wait to get mine completed.  We are going away this weekend, so hope to get some stitching done.

Cheers

Marg

That's a mark for me please!

Wow, was this a lot of appliqué!
I changed the Vase, from a pale green to a darker floral brown. The green seemed to fade into the background too much,So I settled on a darker fabric to pull it altogether.

Love the little ladybug!

That's a mark for me for June and July please Susan!!
Keep it stitchy ladies,
Kel.

Dear Girls,

I have finished May and I am half-way with June blocks.   I put away my Natures Journey quilt for a couple weeks, because I had been working on illustrating a children book (my first such challenge).   I really hope to show you soon, it is now nominated on a national competition for illustrators, fingers crossed:D
I really hope and plan to finish June and July this month and catch you up!:-)
Lots of love, wish you all happy and relaxing summer holidays!

June progress report!

Just thought I would pop in and do a show and tell of where I'm up to.
Also, my daughter doesn't have sleep apnoea, she has Lyme with co infections. I côuld keep writing about the lousy Drs who through their own ignorance let her disease progress to this point, but I won't lol, ;)
Ok! Back to the sewing!
I couldn't wait to start these blocks. There's something about the little squares and the circular applique,so yummy!

I have one down, and the other is ready to stitch together. I didn't use the template for the circle, I just used the template I had for the buttonhole border. It works out a smidge bigger, giving you more of the square fabrics showing, instead of cutting them off altogether.

That's it!
I'm outta here, off to start the rest of the blocks.
Hope your all stitching and enjoying every second.
Kel.x
