That Great Feeling!

Yes!! My Nature's Journey is finished :) ... What a great feeling of accomplishment :) .... I really enjoyed making this quilt.... I learnt to do needle turn applique, learnt to be patient and not hurry things and  met so many fellow patchworkers while on this "journey"! 

Yes,,, I know my label says 2015 and after some deliberation over the issue decided on 2015 as the top was finished last year (October) but it took me a while to decide on hand quilting it or getting it quilted - having made the decision to get it quilted decided not to add it to the quilter's pile of quilts required by Xmas..... then came the binding job just as the very warm weather arrived and well.... it's very hard to get motivated with a quilt draped over your lap!

Will be popping by to see progress on all those other beautiful quilts..... and look forward to meeting up again.....(perhaps on another Stitch-A-Long?)

I’d finished the top some months ago but I hadn’t known what to do with it. I had not wanted to ruin the top with my dilettantish (I didn’t know this word exists in English! That’s pretty cool.) free motion quilting. When I went to the „Patchworktage“ fair in Dinkelsbühl, Germany last year (that's the annual(?) meeting of the German patchwork guild), I visited Nana’s stand. I was very impressed by her skills and sent her my top. Look what she did with it! Isn’t it gorgeous? I really love it. All I have to do is to tie off the yarn and do the binding.

Nature's journey part 3

 

So slowly... so slowly! But I want to sew!!! Very difficult to find out time (returned to job, a baby one in my home, an adopted one next door just in front of his beloved aunt and last a new project on a second university degree... don't know how to find out time, only an hour a week!!!!), but so lovely this project!!!! <3 :)

SAL - Natures Journey a progress report

Can I please have a double JJ added to my J,F,M,A & M

my progress may have been slow, but I really pulled out the stops this last month and have managed to get June and July complete and even had August ready to go before September came. 

June Part 5 big-leaves, acorn, flower, 2xpieced blocks +4small 2xhearts, 2xladybugs

July Part 6 centre appliqué

August Part 7 2 borders with the little squares appliquéd on - well, they are all cut out, preparation is the key they say. That and my love for ziplock bags. I am progressing slowly, so I am now only 1 month behind.... fingers crossed I can catch up before September is done.

September Part 8 last section and into a top and quilted - there is still hope, with a weekend away coming up in Bathurst it may just happen.

Size of Part 7

Could anyone please confirm the finished size (including seam allowance) for part 7? The pattern says it should be cut to 27.5" x 33.5" but my sides of part 7 finish at about 31".

The pattern states further: at Part 8 the 9-patch-blocks that should be attached to the sides measure all in all 30.5".


 It's 27.5" x 30.5", right??

Holiday's homeworks

 

Hi, girls! I went on holidays on August and I always bring with me some patchwork homeworks. This year I did the same but this is my first holidays with my little new-born, so the time was not the same as the past... :) I quilted Henrietta Whiskers and I made some Nature's Journey blocks. Very busy this autumn, but I will work every sunday to Nature's journey! In the meanwhile, so happy to see your progresses, I do love July and August blocks!!!! <3

AUGUST IS READY:-)

We had a terrible tsunami-like fload storms last week in Budapest turning squares into lakes and streets ro raging rivers. My workplace had been seriously damaged, I was very nervous and shoked for days.  It was relaxing to have this beautiful pattern at home, though all this experience had an effect, it is far not as perfect as I can sew, but well... sewing this was a healing and felt much better and the "scars" are mine, in my heart, on my quilt.

Chooky's progress.....

so I have not finished yet but I have more then 1/2 the stems stitched down..........

decided I needed the leaves as I went along since they are under the stems so I spent today turning under the bits and cutting a few more bits I had not prepared...........

so everything is turned and pinned on ready to stitch........

the creatures will be tackled once all these bits are attached........

I am LOVING all the centres..........they are amazing...........

July Done and Dusted

.....And completed with a day  to spare....for a change.

I really enjoyed playing with this block.  Firstly piecing the background and making the most of the toile fabric.

Then it was time to sit and do the applique.  I even tidied up my sewing table.

The applique actually took longer than I had expected.  Once again I had to use some fabric from my stash, as my little scrap bag didn't have any decent sized pieces left.  There are still a few I can cut squares out of for the next borders.

And here we are, all done.

I'm very happy with the way it has turned out and am loving seeing the many other versions that have been completed, especially the bright version.

Now I have to decide how I will attach the diamonds on the next border.  Will I use blanket stitch or will I have to bite the bullet and do some needle turn?  Decisions, decisions......

I'm Still Here!!

Just thought I'd better pop along and say I'm still here and still stitching - though I must admit that when I finished my June blocks in mid-June.... instead of starting July I did take a "couple of weeks off" ... like a "holiday" and now I'm feeling a bit behind!! But this is where I'm at now .... 

will try and finish by the end of the month!! ....but the 31st is looming so I'd better get a move along - no more "holidays"

Love seeing everyone's finished July centre block - you are all very inspiring!

June...Late but...Tick!!...

While bunkering down on the couch this morning hiding from the white crunchy (frost not snow) brrrrr world outside I finally managed to get the last stitch into the final of June's blocks...then the world went all blue and bright (apparently it's called sky & sunshine) so they went outside for photo time...

Two of the big blocks are somehow off centred but I'm choosing to ignore that...so that's June for me thanks Chooky...

I've decided which blocks I'm going to repeat as my make-up blocks for the ones I discounted along the way...I want to do those before starting on the centre so I can pin all the blocks up and see what fabrics the centre might want to be...althogh I've started one of them I'm taking a wee break from Nature's Journey for a couple of weeks so I'll be behind for a little while yet...oh well, you get that, moving on...

Hi all,

I finished today part 4 of Natures Journey. Can anyone tell me what kind of flower that is? Is it a rose hip?

A few days ago I posted my blocks for March

and April.

Yesterday I began and finished my May blocks.

And I couldn't stop....so I began the Juin blocks...

Only 2 blocks to go and juin is finished to!!!

Maybe....if I find the time this evening....

I had to have a major resort before I started the rest of my April blocks...............

balancing out the colour especially since I am doing different colour circles.........

just got caught  with a few other things that had to happen............

but nearly  there........

It's been great to see where everyone is up to.........thankyou to those girls who are finished and great to hear from you even if your not finished it is nice to see your progress.........and if your not finished you pretty close so keep up the great work...........now onto May............I wonder who will be finished first this month...............maybe me...........lol..........

A slow starter.......

Finally, I have done my first part of Natures Journey.  I started rather late, so I am a bit behind, but I hope to catch up sometime....... Now I am going to start out with the March part.
It is my first time with Needle turn, and I think that is a bit hard. Hopefully it will be better when I have done it some more time......
I love to see all the gourgeous parts that you all have made, it's nice to see all the difference in fabrics

Marched On...

A couple of blips along the way (halt to any hand sewing for a week or so) but I'm declaring March blocks done...except the two spiky flower shape blocks which have been discontinued...I was having so much trouble even getting started on stitching those blocks...at sewing group on Monday when they were all that remained I forced myself to start by stitching the centre circles to the base shape...didn't mind that at all...quite happy about stitching the circles...OK, unit completed put on background...not so happy....a few stitches, put it down....a few more, put it down...not going well at all...back home...pick up, put down...slow and not steady...then yesterday it came to me...I don't like the spiky flower shape....not the stitching of pointy bits, the actual shape...the spikey harshness look and feel to the shape...it has to go...so I'm declaring March done and those two blocks are in the "to be changed to something else" pile with the small embroidered blocks from February...when all the blocks are done and laid out I'll decide which of the other shapes to repeat instead of the spikes...the blocks are quick so it won't be a stretch to make up those blocks later...

So as it stands...here is March...now on to April...so far I'm not disliking any of the shapes in the April blocks so that is a good start!
