Quick, late, Jan check-in

My 'Christmas Blessings' block for Jan - completed 4 weeks ago ...

... and my completed 'gymnastics' - and final - block for my SKoW quilt, completed 3 weeks ago.
This block will replace the "old wooden chair" block, and was the one that has been holding completion up for the past year - just didn't quite know how to lay it out, or what to include.  I finally decided on using the 'movement pattern' for one of my favourite moves when I was a gymnast 17 years ago - the backflip - through the top and bottom; with kid-gymnasts in the middle, as I enjoyed coaching - and am actually in the middle of refreshing my accreditations right now (over the past few weeks, with a face to face course this very weekend in fact!).

All my blocks, strips and squares are now sitting out on the table next to the sewing machine ready and waiting for when I can next get a moment to sew them together :D

I apologise for the late posting - the last few weeks, month in fact, have been just so full on with things related to both the coaching courses (both beginner and intermediate courses) and catching up on assessment requirements for my Cert III in Education support that I just haven't managed to make the time to post.

I am hoping to get the blocks for Feb requirements prepared and ready to work on next weekend - yes, late I know, but this week looks to be just as full on in the information overload department!!!  Once they're prepared, I know it will be easy enough for me to just carry them around with me to work on, instead of my crocheted doilies.  I tend to ALWAYS have some on-the-go project with me that I can just pull out of my bag to keep my hands occupied - and not just in waiting rooms!  I've been known to work on random stitching and crochet projects during class (yes, I'm a kinaesthetic learner, and I can keep up better when my hands are doing something), and even brought my crochet in with me to the hospital when I was waiting for my knee surgery last year (it was literally only packed away just before they wheeled me into the surgical room, 2 mins before I was completely out of it!!!)

Looking forward to seeing everyone's Nature's Journey quilts grow over the next year!!

January stitched.

Hello. My stitchery is done but it isn't made into anything yet. I do have a plan which involves my sewing machine, which is packed away for the moment. Just a few more days I think.

I have been working on choosing my fabrics for the quilt. I do intend using my stash so I have to go with the colours I find there. I was looking for a more blue selection but my neutrals have more of a greenish tint so that will be it. Last year (I think it was May) a group of us went on a road trip up to Lynnette Anderson's shop and a friend and I decided to share a fat quarter bundle. We cut them into 1/8 ths and I think they should be just right. I have also found some extra bits from my stash to go with them.

On the same day we visited a fabric discount store where they were selling Anni's range of fabric called Love to Garden, which I couldn't leave there even though I didn't have a plan then. I have pulled those out as well and they will be my guide for colour selection. I know there is plenty in my stash to add to this.

So now I have some preparation to do in getting my applique ready.

My First Mini

Yay!  My January project is completed ... "Christmas Wishes" is the first mini I've made and the first to hang on my little frame.

I plan to make the templates ready for NJ over the weekend as I will have to wait another week before I can get into town to purchase some base fabrics. Looking forward to making a start.

The Stitchery Is Finished For January

Just finished in the last 15 minutes is my stitchery.  I used CGT Hugs & Kisses and the fabric is from Lynette Anderson Designs.  It also fits my hanger perfectly.

January ... Tick

I finished the stitching on  'Christmas Wishes' last night and had plans of adding a fabric border today but the heat has melted away any thought of sewing.

On the cool side ... my pattern arrived this afternoon so I have some reading to do under the fan tonight.

Pattern ordered

After much deliberation, I have decided to go with the BOM option. Yes, I undoubtedly have lots of fabric choices in my stash that would be very suitable, but there are a few reasons why I've chosen the BOM. Firstly, I love Anni's fabric choices as well as her patterns, so feel very happy about the quilt I will be making. Secondly, three of my kids are competitive swimmers. Requires long hours of waiting as well as all the things expected of parents of sporting kids. I'm on the club committee and involved in administration of meets, etc. Thirdly, my parents are both elderly and their health issues have dramatically increased in the last twelve months.  Things don't look good for 2015. So, that was the final part of my decision. I know that I could spend many nights trying to select a piece of fabric and agonise and procrastinate. This way, it's just prepare the appliqué or stitchery and sew.  The idea of sewing is very appealing. Looking forward to getting started. Early February is proposed start for the BOM.

Hello another 'newbie' and THANKS SO MUCH to Susan for answering my pesky emails tonight

Hi
I'm Nay and this is my first SAL - I have been a closet stalking for the last 4 years from the Gardeners Journal Quilt and last year bought my own copy of the Red Book and Anni Downs book to tag along myself with a few of the stitcheries and smaller projects.

So after sorting out profiles, no reply accounts, google plus accounts etc I am now on board and once again a big thanks to Susan for staying up and helping me through everything.

My very first workshop was with Anni Downs with Tricia DeCaux at Almond Grove in Loxton many years ago and have followed her designs and fabric and journey every since - she is such a lovely lady.

I work full-time at our local bank and with 3 kids and a poor suffering husband and also have my own home based business Nays Place where I have started selling fabrics, notions, patterns etc from home after our local fabric shop closed down.

So to make sure I start the year rolling I have decided to use what I have and get through some of my 'tangled threads' and scraps/stash to do this quilt....a photo of my progress so far.

Its lovely to meet you all and finally be part of  SAL 2015.

January Project

Loving all the finished January projects we've been seeing. Very inspirational.  Some of the colours are so fantastic. I think I'm having colour envy. I'd never have thought to use them!  I have mine traced and ready to stitch. I have to take my father for some. I or surgery tomorrow so hope to get some done then. My eldest son's 21st is next weekend. So it's busy, busy, busy until then.  But after that we hope to have a few days away before school starts. There's going to be some serious sewing happening then.

First Timer

Hello from not so sunny Queensland, Australia. Not that I will complain about rain...ever!...because we've just been through the worst drought and not calling it over just yet. My name is Narelle and with my hubby, we try and make ends meet on a cattle property.  I'm afraid my sewing mojo also 'dried up' so I'm looking forward to getting back into it in 2015.

This is my first time participating on this SAL blog although I did make 'Tis The Season' the following year it featured. I've always looked on, admired and even purchased a book or two :o) Looking forward to this journey with you all.

Fixing my blog settings.

Hi Trying to sort out some of my blog issues so am posting to see if changing my settings has worked. Lol!  I'm not totally technologically challenged - maybe technologically limited is more accurate.
