...another SKoFW - Part II...

Here it is...my SKoFW top in-progress folded over Chookyblue's finished quilt...in the Chook Shed!...
It was pretty cool to see them hanging together...and to see Chooky's quilt for real, the colours are so much more awesome than in the photo...I have to address an issue with the bottom "hemline" before putting on the final sashing/border strips but it is pretty darn close to limping over the finish line...

Happy Stitching...

Cant believe i have finished my SKOW quilt

Finally got my SKOW quilt finished with a little bit of prodding from chooky, lol. This quilt was supposed to be for my Grand-daughter 2 birthdays ago and it is now finished in time for her birthday on the 10th of Jan, i stitched it in the ditch and found it heavy going with the rainbow chenille Madie had picked for the back of it and cotton batting in between.
Thankyou chooky if it wasnt for you giving me a push here and there it would still be in the cupboard.
cheers shez xx

SKOW...Believe It Or Not - Progress!

I have been quietly working away on Some Kind of Wonderful over the last few months finalising the applique/stitchery blocks in small increments as time permitted without bothering to blog as I went...I had even put one strip together - but it was a whoops so let's not go there - anyway, yesterday afternoon, to celebrate the 1st day of the New Year, I wrapped my head around two little inescapable facts - 1. I had to wield the rotary cutter and cut 2 1/2" squares I had somehow missed preparing at the outset, and 2. I had to employ the quick unpick *sigh*...

By the end of the day...
2 full and 9/10ths of the 3rd, strips pieced...it would have been three if I wasn't one 2 1/2" square short and it was too late to be wielding sharp objects of the rotary cutter variety and I did have to get up for work this morning, so I went to bed.

Still a bit to go, including finishing off the applique on one block, but you never know, it could happen...

Another one down, one to go ...

Look Chooky!!  I got my 23rd block finished!!!

I was working on this block, little by little over the course of last week, since finishing off my 'sewing' block.  For some reason I enjoyed the needleturn over the stitchery this time, lol, which felt like it was taking forever *wink* ... especially all that hair!!! *giggle*

I've drawn up some ideas for my last block, but not quite decided yet.  I'm thinking I'll either go with my original choice of wine & cheeses, or my new option: gymnastics (I did it for eleven years from a young age, coached littlies for several years, and now my daugther has been going for over 3 years!!  I LOVE watching it, and often find myself scrutinising the gymnasts as a judge would, lol!).

I'm going to give myself a couple of days to mull over the ideas, and start on the cutting for a pieced quilt for my bed I've been wanting to make for a couple of years while I decide ... I also have WIPs, UFOs and USOs (Un-Started Objects *wink*) to sort through and organise, amongst other things this week.

Have a crafty kinda week xx

More SKoW movement

Over the last few weeks I've had fun making some more 'Some Kind of Wonderful' & SAL items :)

First up, the SKoW bag (August item) and needle-book (September item) that I showed here, given to Melody as part of my F.R.I.E.N.D.S. swap ...

I have also been able to get another block done of my quilt, the rainbow block ...
It wasn't as fiddly as I thought it would be, though I have to say, I appreciated my LED Lightbox/pad immensely when laying all the pattern pieces out!!  Thanks to Vicki of Pickledish Patch for making them available!!!

I have sewn together all the pieces for this (middle) row, all but including this block in there, so I'll get that put together before I show this row in it's loveliness *grin*.  This leaves me with three blocks left to make, the friendship block, the sewing block, and the 'chair' possibly wine and cheese (or working out/exercise - I really enjoy it while I'm doing it ... it's just getting me there, or making the time where I struggle!) block.  Here's hoping I get some blocks prepped and done in the next few days!

Binding finished!

I finished my SKoW!!!!!!!! I do love it! The shop-assistent helped me to choose binding and she gave me this red-coral one... It was the only one that can agree with the top and the bottom... and I love tha way it makes the red in the blocks stand out!
And now... the label!!!

As Midnight Creeps Closer...

And as the last hours of 2012 wind down…there is absolutely no doubt about it… even if I cheated and used extra Northern Hemisphere hours…I’m not going to have my SKoW top anywhere near finished…so where am I up to?...

I don’t think I’ve posted the suitcase and bird blocks even though they were finished a while back…I changed the locations on the suitcase to places I've actually been to...that makes all the blocks for rows 1, 2 and 5…The house would be finished if I hadn’t gone and done renovations...just like the real thing they are taking way longer than anticipated!...the shutters are still being installed...

The rest of the blocks for rows 4 and 5 are in various states of appliqué/stitchery almost done to oh drat I forgot to back baste yet, so my SAL journey is going to pull off the road into the layby just before the border to keep working on SKoW and I’ll wave to everyone going on over the border to the next project...

So Chookyblue please keep me on the sidebar as I keep going on SKoW and I’ll be watching the next SAL from the sidelines and cheering everyone else on…thanks for all your efforts with the SAL, even if I couldn’t keep up my end of the bargain this year I have enjoyed journeying along with the other stitchers for the first three SAL projects…

Happy Stitching and a Happy and Prosperously Stitchy 2013 to everyone…

Ta Da - At Last

Finally, I have a completed Some Kind of Wonderful quilt to share.

I finished it at a quarter to twelve the night before our blog meet last Saturday. There was no way I was going to front up without it being finished.

I’ve really enjoyed making this quilt. There was one stage in the middle of the year where I wondered if I would actually get it done, but then I had some time and got a wriggle on.

My friend Val did the quilting. Lots of free hand feathers.

She outlined the appliqué beautifully.

Look at all those feathers.

I’m not sure which is my favourite block, but I am rather partial to the suitcase, which was the only block I tailored to suit me. I just have to make sure that I do visit New Zealand in the not too distant future.

Thanks Chooky for the inspiration and the occasional whipping. I would never have attempted, let alone completed this quilt otherwise.

Still Plodding On...

Well done to all those who have met the deadline or are ever so close to the finish line...I still can't see the finish line although I know it is there somewhere and I am still plodding along working my way towards it...I have no intention of abandoning this quilt I've just not been able to dedicate as much time to it as I would have liked...

Status at the deadline (yes I'm working on Canada deadline time!)...
These blocks are appliqued and the stitchery is done - doesn't look like it in the photo but with one strand of floss the embroidery doesn't photograph well...
These blocks need the stitchery parts - the suitcase stitchery has been started it just doesn't show up in the pic (one strand + close colour = not good photography subject)
Applique to be finished...or even started...the designs are all traced on the back but the faeries haven't been doing a very good job of getting the back basting done...Chooky the answer is this many!...
The strips and squares for the top construction... prepped at the start ...

I'm hoping to get some more of the applique and stitchery done over the next two weeks - I'll be taking the project box on the road with me as I travel up to a friend's in northern New South Wales...of course I can't stitch and drive but as I'm taking two days to drive up and 2-3 days to drive home I'll need some hand stitching to while away the overnight stay hours...let's see if I manage to get any more done...

Happy Stitching...

A Few More Stitched...

Hi...a few more with the stitchery done...not easy to see the stitching in the photos I know as I use one strand and the floss matches a little too well for photo taking in some but it is there...

A bit of a party going on with a present, cake and chocolates!...
The chocolates are "Roses" they are wrapped in pretty papers...

It's finally Spring here today so maybe the butterflies will start to flutter...
Cracking on...

Some Progress...

There has been some progress...the stitchery on four blocks yesterday afternoon/evening...and two more today at craft group...

If I could draw then the umbrella block would be Gene Kelly swinging around a lamp post in the rain but as I can't I had to stick with Anni's version of Singing in the Rain...the daisy is appropriate being Spring, well in theory, seriously it's 1 October why is it cold enough to need the heater on!...the choice of hot cuppas doesn't go astray in this crazy weather...I've now done the stitchery on about half of the blocks I've finished the applique on...which one to choose next?...

Happy Stitching...

A Little Progress...

Breaking blog silence to report that there has been some progress...not a lot but I seem to have managed to get SKoW restarted...working out just what colours I wanted to use for the stitchery portions and ordering skeins of the colours I was missing was a good start...

At retreat on the weekend stitchery bits were stitched on...

The book...having received Marian's latest book during the week I chose this block first... yes I know the book is backwards, not all languages write/read left to right and the fact that English does I'm ignoring!

The yellow of the floss really doesn't photograph but it is there!

And yesterday at sewing group...

Chosen for the fact it has one word and therefore was quick to get done!...

 Hippy Dippy Jeans...Peace Man!...

The stitchery on another one is underway...what can it be???...you'll have to wait and see...

Happy Stitching...

February Finished....and July and August

I have had a very productive afternoon and evening yesterday on my SKOW quilt.  All the small patchwork panels are completed and the long panels completed as much as I can.  I can’t put off those pesky petals any longer.

So here is what I have to show.

February’s panels are now attached and the last column is completed with its sashings.

I just need to complete the stitching block and the tree with the pesky petals and insert them in their columns, which are otherwise finished.

When I was cutting my small coloured squares I came across a zip lock bag with some small “Scraps” in it.  A couple were big enough to cut a square out of, so I did.  I now realise they were the pieces for the little patchwork panels on the stitching block….Oops.  I’ll have to cut some more.

I now feel quite confident that I will be finished on time.

March Done!

Here is my March section, finished....I have April done except for the strip......I changed "Gardening All Day" to "Growing Flowers" which is what I do because I enjoy the beauty....I do not enjoy gardening....I tried to make my house look like the one we live in with red brick and a red roof...We do not live in a 2 story but I didn't want to change that too much...
On the circle flowers, I learned that if I make a running stitch and kind of gather the ends, it helps to turn them under. I added a button for the center of the daisy.....In the next section, I plan to do a bear where the shoes are....

Plugging along

Hello there, I'm just giving an update on my progress. I have Dec. - March applique downed and a couple of the blocks embroidered.

Next is to finish the embroidery work and get the sashing rows sewn on.

But I took a break from these and made one of the other project she has in the book. I made a shoe bag.

So cute
There are a couple of other projects I plan on making too.
The bag and pincushion.
This book is chocked full of fun projects.
Till next time

February!

Finally I finished all the strips for February's blocks...
