Finally I have managed in the last week and a bit to get some actual stitchy progress made...I started the stitching part, that in itself is progress!...so here are the first five applique blocks...
Sure, the stitchery isn't done, there is a bit missing from the suitcase (the name tag...oops! seems I forgot to include that bit when preparing the block) and the patty cakes need their cherry decorations but hey, it's a start and not too shabby for a week that also included two new working environments!...
I'm using a new-to-me applique technique, back basting, which, with the inevitable twist or two of "making it work for me", I'm finding enjoyable. I don't do the needle turn as you go along thing well...I just don't...it makes applique a misery and I always resort to the way I was taught back in the mid-1980s of basting the shapes then appliqueing...I think I've finally found an alternative way that I get along with even if I've reinvented the wheel a little bit in the way I go about it and my method is not strictly "by the book"...works for me and hey, what does it matter how we get there as long as we have fun and achieve the result we are after.
Now on to the January blocks on the list...after I give that suitcase a tag and the patty cakes their cherries on top!!

they look great - you've done quite a lot all of a sudden ... I don't think it matters how you do it... so long as it works for you....and you have fun at the same time....

Looks wonderful...I'm interested in what stitch you use to applique once you have basted?
We cant tell that they are not stitched so just go ahead and do what you can when you can. Its the end deadline that matters most afterall! They all look lovely
