A Question of care....

Please feel free to correct any of my misconceptions or down right untruths on the subject of care of needleturn appliqued quilts.
I assume needleturn applique, because very little fabric is turned under, is not as sturdy as buttonhole (machine or hand) applique. Therefore quilts made with this method of applique are not utilitarian ones, but are better left for display only.
When I made my GJ quilt, I would wash/rinse the embroideries before incorporating them in the blocks. On my needleturn blocks I have used a Karisma (ceramic) pen to help with placement. I would prefer to rinse it out rather than try to brush out.
Is this possible? Should I use something else instead?
I use a pigma pen for the bits that are embroidered over. That's okay because it gets hidden.
What are your thoughts?

December Blocks

Hi all, long time no post. I have finished my December blocks but was waiting the post once January's were done too but I am currently having a daisy phobia. All those skinny petals together with my dodgy needleturn skills & suddenly I'm busy elsewhere.

Anyway, I've promised my self to get on to those petals tonight while watching the latest Planet of the Apes movie (my mum's favourite so thought I better keep up the tradition for her).

I am loving December's blocks now the row is together.

As you can see I turned my patty cakes into a big slab of sponge with raspberry jam in the middle, raspberry icing, a blob of cream & strawberries. At first I thought my design genes were on holiday with my needleturn genes but now it is finished, I quite like it.

My favourite block so far is the travel block. It really started to appeal to me once I personalised the name & destinations. Of course a bag that size would only fit my quilting & knitting supplies for the trip, hence the Quilter Abroad label. I always pack those first, books second, presents third & then clothes, toiletries etc. On top goes a pictures of Brutus & Honey to put on my bedside table where ever the trip is taking me.

So for January the chocolates block is done & the stitchery for the daisy, so going to put on my big girl pants tonight & get that daisy done. I'm really enjoying doing the piecing between the blocks & adding a bit of colour to all the beautiful neutrals. It's on the agenda to do the side piecing too this weekend. Wish me luck!

New to the Group – Yippee!

Thank you Chooky for giving me the opportunity to join this wonderful group SAL, I am so excited to be stitching with wonderful people from all over the world.

I have been following all your work for a while now, I love everyones ideas and individual touches that are added. I get so excited when I see all the fabric selections used, they looking wonderful. I have started A Gardners Journal (I have a long way to finish) and Tis The Season is finished, just needs to be quilted.

So now I am ready to start Some Kind of Wonderful. I have chosen my main fabric, just now rganizing background. I think I am going to blanket stitch this quilt as many of the UFO’s I have at the moment are all needle turned. I think a change will be nice.

Here are my January blocks all finished! I've sewn them together- but my picture of the whole thing together seems to have disappeared- sorry! I am having a really hard time putting this project down (like I see some other people has as well...) But I'm not going to tell you which block I am on now..... I am having a lot of fun though!!!!

Cold and Frosty Finish

Good Afternoon everyone.

I finished stitching the Jan and Feb blocks together this morning. I took them outside for a little photoshoot - it was a very cold and frosty morning here in the UK today. I made just one change - to the hot chocolate block. I'm not a big fan of hot choc but I am a huge fan of coffee so my mug is a mug of hot coffee instead.

The first picture is of my top and bottom borders. Thank you so much for the reminder to make these now as I'd totally forgotten and wasn't planning to make them until the end.

The second picture is of the Jan and Feb blocks stitched to the December blocks. Each time I make a new block I think it's my new favourite, they're all lovely.

I'm itching to start on the house block now but will hold off a little while and work on a couple of other projects first of all. I don't need much encouragement to stitch the blocks themselves but being part of the stitch a long is definitely keeping me on track stitching the sashings and borders together.

Here is a pictures of the last three blocks I stitched, I did two of them just the past week and half way done with the seventh. Half way there and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!! I hope everyone else that hasn't finished yet will pick them back up in time for next Christmas. The closer I get the more excited I am to finish this little beauty.

I finished this block yesterday and now have it all pressed.I am not very good at needleturn so hopefully i will improve as i go.

I now have 2 blocks finished for my SKOW quilt,and my 3rd is nearly finished as well,this quilt will be for my grand-daughter Madie, and she has picked the fabrics for this quilt.

My Favourite Things Quilt

I'm having a bit of trouble putting this quilt down at the moment !! Last night while I was watching the ladies final of the Australian Open Tennis, I prepared and ironed on the March blocks so they will be ready for stitching when I feel like it!! I've never been this far ahead on a stitch a long project before ..... so while I'm on a roll ....... preparation is halfway there!! Is anyone else having trouble putting it down??? Nice to be moving along with this quilt. Thankyou ChookyBlue , a lovely way to note ones progress.

One of my favourite chocolates was `Cadbury` roses chocolates hence the rose background fabric. Sad to say I can`t eat these anymore as lactose in tolerant.

Tiny little blocks

I found a little zip lock bag with some tiny pieces in it and nearly threw it out.

But I decided to do a little investigating and then made these.

They are the small blocks for the sewing block due in May

A Question Answered

Fiona @Dragonfly-crafts asked an excellent question today about exactly what you need to have the month officially completed. I have answered her in the comments, but thought I would post this here too so you can all see it easily in case anyone else has a question. (Chookyblue, feel free to correct me if I have it wrong!)

the plan!

To have the month completed you need to complete and show all of the blocks allocated for that month. Each month has some applique blocks, some blocks of squares, and a block of strips and squares. They don't have to be joined together, but can be if you like. You'll notice that the top and bottom blocks of strips and squares are allocated to February and March and won't be able to be joined until everything else is finished. Hope that clears everything up. Keep up the good work girls! I know just from the glimpses you have been showing here on the blog that these quilts are going to be gorgeous! Must get back to mine.

I'm reading the left hand side of our blog page and noticed that September is for piecing all blocks together....

But am I right that we don't get our letters beside our names until our blocks are put together in our long strips.

Then I understand October is for Quilting.

Wow .... what a great day I have had!!! Stitching away happily ..... and this little baby didn't let me down!! This has been a great workout for my new friend "Bliss"!!

And so now Miss Chooky ....... what have we here???? December, January and February (yes .... that's February's bottom binding hanging over the line there too!!) Whew!!!! Now I can get onto some other projects I have to do in the next couple of weeks and not worry about missing February deadline!! Thanks Chooky for cracking the whip ..... I have had a fantastic day!! Amazing what you can do with a day away from the office and no phones ringing!!

And by the way ... is it just me or is everyone having trouble taking photos of such a loooooooong project???? I took it over to the next door clothesline .... the wind was blowing .... the puppy was wanting to help .... and this is trying to get it to stay still for just a moment!! You'd think I would know better...heaven knows I've done enough of these SALs with Chookyblue to know that she doesn't give out ticks until the entire months work is complete!

I don't know whether I was ignoring the instructions, or misunderstood, or what, but I somehow thought I would get away with doing December and Januarys blocks without the border strips!

Silly me!

Anyhow, after reading the blog post below and coming to the horrifying conclusion that I was officially behind (heaven forbid!!!) I got off my butt and put those strips on quick smart!

Could I please, even pretty please, have December and January blocks after my name Chookyblue?

(Please tell me I'm not the only one who did this...feeling a bit silly LOL)

Hi Ladies
yay i am finally up to date, for a couple of days anyway.
See, my border and sahings are all in place, although don't look to close as one of my sashings is sewn on the wrong side, i will blame it on the extremely hot weather and don't tell Suzitee as i am not unpicking it. (unpicking is not in my sewing vocabulary) Luckily its a tone on tone and quite hard to see.

I have also finished my January blocks and although i did have a thought to change the chocolate block to cheese i left it alone as there are a few other blocks i will have to change.

Now if only i can get up to date on all my other projects i will be one happy girl.(I'm dreaming).

If you live in QLD i hope you are not getting to wet or flooded out and if you live in Perth-as i do, stay cool, and to all the Aussie ladies, Happy Australia Day and to everyone else Happy Thursday.

And I'm still working on December's blocks! Which would be admirable if I was learning needle turn appliqué, but I'm raw edge machining this quilt people!!!

This is my suitcase block. It's going to say "the beach at sunset". I do like the beach, but I mostly only travel to my local beach, hence the suitcase change.

And this is my cup of tea block. (I don't drink tea. Or coffee for that matter.) But I do stitch! A lot!
I'm working on the other blocks too. My umbrella block features an umbrella, and is finished. Phew!

I'm busy stitching and hope to have December finished soon. We are moving house next week, but I know that sewing and stitching will be fitted in around the moving because it's what keeps me sane and everyone here loves living with a sane wife and mother!

Last october I received a fabulous gift for my birthday !!

A princess skirt !!

I met Marie, a very gifted designer in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines during our european quilt exhibition in September 2011.
Marie makes sooooooooo beautiful dresses !!
I asked her to make a pink skirt for me. I chose the fabrics and colors and... here it is !

Can you see the lovely lacing-up in the back ?????
She made me the black top too !!

I LOVE this skirt so much that I asked Marie if I can put it in my SKoW quilt.
She's so nice ! She gave me a sketch and little samplers of the same fabrics of my skirt...
and I make this :

Now I can tell you my deepest wish... to get the whole wardrobe of Arwen !!! ( you know the Elvish girl...) Of course it will need to be resized... but... all we need is DREAM !!!

Slow But Steady

Chookie has cracked the whip so I'm sharing my blocks. Two done so far - one in the final stages - and I'm still plugging away. We had a loss in the family and a very serious illness over the holidays so I'm behind. I'm confident I can catch up soon. I'm actually enjoying the challenges of appliqué!

This is my first appliqué ever! So much fun!

And this is my second appliqué ever! Woot! I changed the text - I love dancing in rain puddles!

They photographed rather dark. I'm using traditional needleturn for the larger pieces and spray-starch appliqué for the smaller ones. I'm changing my patty cakes into cup cakes, but the frosting has gone a bit wonky.

Chookie, just a FYI, it's going to be a long time before you can update the sidebar for me. I'm using charm packs. I'm waiting until the end to cut up any leftover charm squares into those small sashing squares.

Finally I am back in the game...

November last year I jumped out of the starting block, full steam ahead on SKOW. I did one block and then I don't know what happened ... Oh thats right Christmas.

So finally I am back in the game and trying very hard to catch up. Just wanted to share "patty cakes" and "old blue jeans" blocks with you. I don't know why I waited so long to get back into it, these blocks are alot of fun. And with each block I fall in love with this fabric even more.

Oh well no resting for the wicked... its back to stitching for me.

TTS at the Dapto Show

A couple of girls have dropped off..........one doing the quilt with an offline group (different goal posts to ours) and the other 2 have decided they have other stuff they need to get done instead. the goals are written on the left sidebar and more importantly there is a simple photo to show you what has to be done each month. I only update the sidebar when I see the section as per the sidebar.

There has been lots of blocks popping up here and there but we I don't mark that off until I see the sections done....................

Also if you could let me know if I have made any mistakes updating the sidebar..................

It was wonderful to see a couple of finished Tis the Season Quilts............one finished Gardener's Journal quilt and a couple made it to the top stage.............it is so exciting................

The best part is seeing every enjoying their stitching on the quilts...........everyone giving it a go and learning something.............well done and keep up the great stitching...............

December Blocks Sewn (if not together)

I'm still to sew the December strip, but at least I have the blocks sewn. I loved the jeans, but I don't think these were my old ones - my legs are NOT that long. Though I did have some buttoned and not zippered ones when I was young.
The suitcase was fun. I should have made the New Zealand 'sticker' look a lot older. I went there in 1978 when I was in my early twenties. (Yes, I know some of you were still in nappies.) At the time all an Aussie needed was a return ticket - no document of identification, passport or visa.
Many years later, and only about 6 years ago, we went to Norfolk Island. That's the 'NIs' one. Singapore was next in 2010. We chose Singapore because it was just far enough to go to see if I could handle a long plane flight. It turned out to be a wonderful destination and I'd go back tomorrow. Then late last year, we finally got to England.
I hope my suitcase gets lots more stickers one day.
I have a question but I'll save that for another post.

I was very excited this am to read that I am now able to join the S-A-L group of eager sewing ladies. I had enquired about joining, but realised I had to have a blog. With Chooky's very patient assisitance, I now have a blog and am learning to do posts, take photos to add to the blog etc.
So now I can start on the quilt as well. I had actually bought the book at the Darling Harbour quilt show in June 2011--- put it aside to one day start the quilt! Now I have no excuse but to start the quilt.
I will have to look at my fabric stash--- which is growing everytime I look at it-- and choose my fabrics.
I am looking forward to joining a lovely bunch of ladies with the same interests.

January/February Section

I put together my blocks and sashing to make the two panels for January/February part

of the December section. Right away, I see problems and will need to take out

stitching and redo that section....I hate redos but it

won't look right unless I

correct that mistake....I must have measured wrong

when I trimmed my background pieces after the applique was

completed. The patchwork section on the bottom

is a little lower than the one on the first panel...And

see that place in the sashing strips where I have two squares

in the same place.

I think I can correct it without too much

hassle.

I stitched the cherry on top of one of the Chocolates...

I used a button for the Daisy center

and the cherry on top of the ice cream.

I loved the way the book looked when I

finished it.

I seldom drink hot Chocolate so

I've made this hot coffee instead.

I know there is a bottom panel to do before

I can actually say I'm up through February.

I will get that done in a few days although it

can't be added until more of the panels are finished.

I really enjoy doing these appliques

but I think I'm going to work on something else for

the next few weeks.

SKofW - January Greetings from Finland

Here is my SKofW blocks for January.

Once again I did some changes...

For the chocolates block I found nice Confections fabric (designed by Jennifer Huber for R. Kaufman). I also replaced yum - word with nam ;o) Chocolates are really one of my favorite things... May I tell you a secret? At last Christmas I ate ALL TOO MUCH confections... several boxes...

Maybe that is the reason, why my trousers feel like shrunken... hm, :o/...

Let's look the other block now!

On that

I added finnish word kukkaniityt, which is the flowering meadow in english... or something like that...

I just love the summer and wild flowers; especially hare-bells are my favorites...

I hope you don't mind, if I sew sashing and border stripes later... (I'm planning to sew them after all applique and patchwork). If you wonder why... it's only that I haven't yet decided my stripe fabrics... and there is a new fabric range coming from Moda / 3 Sisters called 'Papillon', which I would like to use in this quilt...

Over the past few nights I had my trusty rotary cutter working flat out. I have finally decided what fabric's to put where and labeled them all ready to go.

I have decided to go with the needle turn applique technique.
I started with the patty cakes.....

Sunday Show and Tell

I have a little something to show you today :)

After a rather extended stay at the quilters (almost 12 months!) I am very very excited to show you my completed A Gardeners Journal quilt! WOOOHOOOOOO!

Such bright colours! Such wonderful texture! Such glorious completion! LOL

The quilting was worth the wait, it is really lovely...

...especially from the back :)

I sat in the lovely cool airconditioning this morning and stitched a label to finish it off...

...and now it's hanging in my lounge room! Words can't really express how happy I am to have this quilt finished...thanks to all of you wonderful girls for your support and encouragement along the way :)

I actually finished all the embroidery at the start of December and had it all pieced except for the last two seams and the borders the week before Christmas but didn't get the photos or time to post about it.....

so better late than never......

now I'm thinking about how to quilt it machine or by hand......

and btw you girls are all going so well with your skofw ....the blocks are looking fabulous.....

Hello and happy new year ... have been watching all of the posts coming through and I must say I had better get a hurry on. It looks like everyone is enjoying this project!

I did prepare in early December, cutting, sorting into my plastic bags, making templates etc. but then it all came to a sudden halt - but now back on track . . . have a couple of days off now so it is back into it.

I have been sorting out the sewing room and have put all of my "many" projects away in labelled colourful boxes and have included the date ... this way it makes me take a hard look at all of these projects before I dash off and want to start a new one - you know what I mean!!!

I have decided to try needle turn on this project, so far I have marked and pressed each piece ready for sewing onto main fabric. I don't know if I will do all of the quilt this way, I may alternate with blanket stitch - not sure at this point, will see how I go with this one first!

Yay i am up to date, well for a little while anyway and only on this quilt everything else is soooo not up to date. So here's my finished panel

After two years and lots of wonderful encouragement

it's finished and I love it so much ...

Then I would see a wonderful block or stitchery that someone did and

I thought "no" keep stitching away...

plus the patience of Chooky not telling me

I used Fig Tree Fabrics from a few different ranges

and love the look of it...I even changed some blocks too...
just to fit the fabric in a certain place...LOL

After a very busy afternoon with my ruler and

rotary cutter I am pleased to say I have cut all the

strips for the borders and the columns.....

Background blocks for the whole quilt labeled and ready....

Lots of coloured squares for the pieced blocks and columns....

Lots more cream print squares for the pieced blocks and columns....

And fabric for piecing on the sewing block.....

It doesn't look like much but it was very time consuming.....

I thought if I prepared all the blocks first when I start

stitching I should hopefully catch up in no time.....

Howdy all!

It's been a tough winter so far - my family has suffered a loss and some medical trials. On the bright side, after months of practicing, I have completed my very first needleturn block (my goal in this project is to learn needleturn). Unfortunately, by the time I get home, it's too dark to take a pic. Hopefully, will share by this weekend (I'm SO geeked - it was so much fun!)

Finally getting up to date with Some Kind of Wonderful. Here are the first three completed blocks:

I missed the steam - but have since fixed this. Unfortunately the photo didn't work out!

Just saw a version of this with the spines embroidered - looked great.

Finally added the stitches.

I've almost completed the jeans block and I have the patterns organised for the suitcase block. Hoping to get both done today. It's not easy to use a sewing machine at the moment so I'll probably continue on with January's applique and leave the joining until later. They are such fun blocks to do!!

I'm sorry to interrupt the Some Kind of Wonderful stitch-a-long, but I've finally finished my Tis The Season stitch-a-long. Just today, late for the holidays I know, but at least it's finished. I may need to leave up my Christmas decorations a few days longer, so I can enjoy my quilt.

I made the block of the blue jeans! Everyone hearted it. I didn't have enough blue, because I'm working with charm pack ant the blue jeans is very long, so I opted for a prints from 70s in acid green with flowers... do you like it?

Here is my December homework done - only 3 days late!! I really enjoyed putting this together although it did take a bit longer than I thought with all those little 1 1/2" squares!! And it proved to be difficult to photograph ... but here it is!!

December Blocks Progress

I only started on my blocks a few days ago, but as I am doing the blanket stitch on the machine it has come together quite quickly...I have given myself a deadline to finish December blocks before the end of the week.

the suit case is one of my favourites

the international tag I blanket stitched a little further outside the tag so I could see the stitching more...wished I had also done it with the others as I quite like the effect

I will also add a button later instead of stitching one on

I only have the words to do in backstitch on the jeans and tea cup and then I can start piecing together.

I was hoping to do my blocks (needle-turn) this week... but then I sliced my thumb open!!!

I did this a few days ago, but believe me it was deep! I needed to swap out my bandaid three times the day I cut it ... and it was only at lunch time that I did it!! (Every time I bent my thumb ever so slightly it re-split and bled further!!

Although it has stopped bleeding, it is still quite tender, so unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting much done until I get home next week.

Making a Start

For the first time I have joined in Chookyblue’s Stitch-a-Long. I’ll be doing my appliqué using blanket stitch on the machine, otherwise it would never get finished.

Firstly, I found my fabrics and a rather cute box to use to store the project in.

The creams came mainly from the stash, but I cheated and visited Anni’s shop to buy the coloured fabrics.

Nothing more happened until Boxing Day when I finally made a start. I cut all the appliqué block backgrounds, traced the pieces onto vliesofix and cut whisperweft until I ran out of both and then stitched until I needed more matching threads.

Now that I’ve been to the shops, I spent all day yesterday working on the quilt, without doing a stitch. I do have all the appliqué blocks prepared to just stitch and have enough little squares and strips cut to keep me going for a while.

At least the first block is now completed. Hopefully, I’ll be caught up by the end of January.

I’ve really enjoyed playing with all the blocks and can’t wait to have some more finished.

Thankyou Chooky Blue for invitation to join in with everyone. I`m late as I`ve been unwell. Happy New Year to everyone.

One row completed. The cupcakes reminded me of the papercases we have on birthday cupcakes,so put papercases on mine with lemon icing and cherries on top.

Have used whipped chain stitch for the ribs of the umbrella.

A cup of `Lady Grey` tea in a beautiful Enlish tea cup like I have in my china cabnet.

So many of us love our Blue jeans.

I`ve added `a past holiday to my block as in 2004 I went to USA on my trip of a life time. A visit with my penpal. We have been writing to each other since we were eight years old. I stayed with her for two months.While there we travelled over to twenty five states.I was so blessed.
Well have cut out background for my chocolate block so time to go till next posting.

Yeah the batteries finally charged so I could take picture of my completed section..was not easy to get it all in I might add..

I am enjoying the needle turn more and more, but man the piecing of them wee bits eek –and also them strippy borders will challenge me to the end as I’m one of them matchy types and am trying real hard to mix it up some, I changed my Suitcase tags to some of the places that I have visited that will stay in my memory for ever.

I have progressed with my SKOW quilt. Today is the last day and I have done the jeans.

I am part way to finishing the piecing between the blocks.

And here is the suitcase. I left the places as they were as I have been to all of them fairly recently.

I hope to do a bit more work this afternoon and start cutting the border pieces. I hope everyone has a fun New Year even if it is just at home stitching.

Nothing to Show....

...but not because I have been ignoring this project...I've just been working on preparation of the whole quilt as I did for GJ and TTS and that takes a lot of time...all the backgrounds have been cut...the small squares are residing in their ziplock baggies and the sashing strip pile is growing nicely. I was going to blanket stitch the applique blocks but while wandering through some books, looking for something not at all related to SKoW, I chanced upon really good instructions for a method I knew about but haven't tried before - back basting - so I am now tracing all the designs on the back of the background fabrics then I want to prep them all so that I can simply pick up and go to stitchy group and take along a block all ready to be stitched...once all the prep is done the actual applique stitching should fly along nicely (well in theory anyway)...my usual methodology is the turn and baste method anyway so same amount of preparation but I should get a nicer finish (again, in theory).

My favorite things...

SKofW is proceeding well also here at the quilttales

I have earlier introduced Pattycakes and The Umbrella blocks and the changes on them.

Maybe few words about the other three blocks too...

My jeans are old, cosy and grey with silkribbon embroidered rose on the left leg.

We finnish people drink a lot of coffee. I was about five years old, when I 'learnt' to drink it. Oh, that sounds really nasty, but it's true and I'm still drinking it about four- six cup in a day.

During my life I have travelled in many countries. For this suitcase I picked up some extra fun journeys with my dear mother.

These are the stories behind the latest blocks, which I today sewed together...

I didn't sew those narrow stripes, because I haven't yet decided what kind of fabric (= colours) I want to use... I'll make a decision of them after the second row is ready... Hm, I'm giving myself two extra months for very difficult decision ;o) I hope you all understand me...

During boxing-day I finally made 'a sandwich' of my GJ...

... and it's ready for quilting. My dream is to finish it before summer ;o)

This year gave me a lot of fun memories with you all...

and I'm really looking forward

a new exciting stitching year 2012

I have finished the target for December. It has been a learning curve for me with the needle turn but I am kind of liking it now.

I spent yesterday cutting all my little teeny tiny squares (and the bit bigger ones) and all the strips as well as all the necessary background blocks for the rest of the quilt.

I have also pieced all the 2 and 4 patch units so now when it comes time I will just have to decided which ones go where! I really need to keep reminding myself that it is supposed to be a bit scrappy and not get too carried away trying to "perfect" it

My Favourite Things Quilt

A couple of blocks have now been completed for my December deadline !! In amongst playing with our new puppy NALA (the classic time waster) - I have managed a little bit of stitching!! My old blue jeans!

My suitcase which I have altered with the names of our recent travel destinations!

My First Block.....

Here's proof I have finally started & will catch up very soon. I thought the blue jeans block would be a good one to start with for a needle turn newbie. Funnily enough, the crotch gave me a few problems with 1 or 2 stray threads not wanting to tuck, but while not perfect I got there in the end. Lots to learn doing this new method of applique.

I didn't add the Peace sign as that was just before my time but sewing my stonewash denims had me racking my brain for the name of that fabric that came out in the 70s that changed colour as you wore it depending on how warm you were. I loved it & had a couple of tops in that fabric that looked just so 'choice' with my stonewash jeans. I was in NZ at the time so there wasn't that big a change in temp but that poor fabric must have worked overtime here in Aussie.

Now block 1 is done, on to the next tonight. I admit I am a bit worried about getting those points right on the umbrella block. After my crotch problems they seem a step up in trickiness. As almost everyone is ahead of me, any tips or tricks you found when doing this block or any others would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully in a few weeks I will feel confident enough to lose my L plates.

It's great to be on the SAL again!

three of my favourite things

... I have started!!! I am so excited! I decided to go with 1930's fabrics the second after reading that that's what Chookyblue was going to do. (Not copying, just recognising a great decision the instant I see it!) I have a bunch of 30's fabrics in my stash so I wouldn't even need to buy any! (My Bradley was soooo proud of me.) Sat down to begin this morning (December 29, not last minute at all. I was busy, so busy, till today.) and realised that I would probably need a few background fabrics for the applique and stitching. Oh. (How I had not gleaned that from reading everyone's posts I don't know.) So, I googled patchwork shops to find out which one would be open today and then bought great background fabrics. I'm very happy now that I have a plan. Oh. And since this is "My Favourite Things Quilt", I am going to include some of my favourite things. (I love Anni, but our favourite things don't all coincide!) And since I don't actually like cakes I thought a trio of some of my other favourite things might suffice. Wish me luck! I'm late, but I'm working on it!!!

Last minute shopping was done yesterday and lots of baking ready for tonight and for Sydney. Today feels a bit more relaxed as there is just dinner to organise. I was a bit tired last night but managed to finally start my Some Kind of wonderful quilt! Only a week to go and there are lots of blocks to do but I am pleased I have begun. Might just get another block ready today!

The gift of giving is so amazing..................it is such a good feeling..............seeing, hearing, reading those precious responses........when you give someone a gift...........it is even more precious when you can make your gifts............thinking about the person receiving the gift as you go along..................
This is a special gift.................this quilt is a group project for one of the SAL members................earlier in the year I got an idea emailed some girls and was blown away by the response..............so promptly people got stitching and the blocks were stitched for Deb and Andrea..........both having terrible times in there lives and both girls had been part of the smaller GJ SAL group........(poor Deb has had earth quakes again today)..
Miche'le got to work on Deb's (here) quilt but it took a little while for Andrea's to happen............lets say life interrupted............finally it got to the machine as was pulled together............popped into the mail and landed on the sleigh today................just in time for Christmas.......

In between the christmas shopping, cooking, wrapping gifts and working ... I am making time to do a little bit of stitching each day .... some Christmas and some current projects ..... here are a couple of completed blocks (in amongst the wrapped gifts) ....

Mmmmm .... I am enjoying a cup of peppermint tea as I write this post!

As you can see I have opted for the blanket stitch method as I enjoy the texture of the applique! I hope your Christmas stitching is going along nicely and you make time each day to relax and enjoy this festive season!
